The Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission will hold a public meeting and hearing on March 11 at the Topeka Holiday Inn Holidome, 605 Fairlawn Rd., in the Salon C meeting room.
The afternoon session will begin at 1:30 p.m., and the evening public hearing will begin at 7.
The afternoon session will begin with overviews of KDWP fiscal status, as well as progress of department-related action in the 2010 Kansas Legislature. In addition, the session will include discussion of early migratory bird seasons, deer management status, and the nonresident limited-quota antlered permit application period.
The afternoon portion of the meeting will also include workshop session discussion, in preparation for potential future regulatory action, of preliminary recommendations on these topics:
• Hunting, furharvesting, and discharge of firearms;
• Falconry regulations;
• Antelope — open season, bag limit, and permits;
• Elk — open season, bag limit, and permits;
• Deer — open season, bag limit, and permits;
• Deer — open season, bag limit, and permits: additional considerations;
• Big game — legal equipment and taking methods;
• Wild turkey — legal equipment and taking methods; and
• Use of crossbows for big game hunting by persons with disabilities — application, permit, and general provisions.
The commission will recess at 5 p.m., then reconvene at 7 at the Holidome for the public hearing.
Time will be set aside in both the afternoon and evening sessions for public comment on topics which are not on the agenda.
