Brief description: This traditional public course has mature trees and a gently rolling terrain that can be easily walked. Abundant trees, some water and a few bunkers combine to provide a challenge for players of all skill levels. Owned by the City of Topeka, the course is managed by Billy Casper Golf out of Vienna, Va.

Brief description: This wide-open, nine-hole course originally was part of Forbes Air Force Base, which was closed in 1973. An extremely level, walkable layout, Forbes features generous, well-kept greens. It’s a good course for beginners, and seniors who prefer to walk.

Brief description: Offering scenic views of Lake Shawnee, the course has been referred to as the Pebble Beach of Kansas. The tree-filled rough and rolling terrain crosses a number of moderately steep hills but produces a fair and enjoyable test for golfers. The greens are fairly level for the most part.
